The Revidge Fold Community Lunch Club

This was started in 1992 as an ecumenical project to serve the needs of the community by providing fellowship and a shared meal to some 30 men and women, who are house bound, elderly or living alone.

It is staffed by approximately 36 volunteers working in teams of around 7 on a rota basis.

2 cooks, 2 drivers for the house bound and 3 serving and washing up.

The home cooked meal consists of a main course, sweet and tea or coffee at a cost of £ 1.50.

The Lunch club is every Thursday at 12.30.

Revidge Fold Community Lunch Club celebrated 10 years of service to the community on 27th of February this year. The first meal was served in 1992 to 25 members with staff of 35 voluntary helpers from all 3 churches in our covenant. Membership has fluctuated over the years, but we still have an average attendance of 23 with 28 people at present on the roll. 5 members attend Revidge Fold, and the rest come from the surrounding area and mostly live alone.

We have currently 31 helpers plus 2 hostesses. The meals have been priced at £1.50 for the past 10 years! However we have had to increase this from March this year, in line with ST James to £2.00 and still able to provide a cooked main coarse, sweet and tea or coffee for that price.

We do not aim to make a profit but are able to cover our expenses, and have donated £250 to the church together with new kitchen equipment (for general use) as and when required. The drivers and cooks make no charge for petrol, and give their time and expertise freely and will do so as long as there are able to. New helpers always welcome speak to Marjorie Thomson if you are able to help.
