The youth club has undergone its transformation over the summer and was ready to open its doors to the young people on 16th August. I must extend a big thank you to all the willing volunteers who helped with the preparation of the basement for project.
The first night was attended by 20 young people, who came along to the opening night. It was also good to see friends and volunteers calling in to see the fruits of their labour. Visitors are more than welcome to call in and see the Club in action on any Thursday evening between 7.00 and 9.00 p.m.
The young people immediately took to their new surroundings and felt relaxed and safe. The staff volunteers worked hard to create this atmosphere of support and will maintain this to get the project established as a beacon of hope in the dark world that young people often face.
Whilst discussing possible art projects with the young people, a name for
the room was suggested. The young people decided on the name
"BUZZ CLUB". This was incorporated into a mosaic that was being
designed. The group then set about creating the mosaic using broken tiles
and the result is quite stunning. This will be displayed on the wall and all
are welcome to view our first work of art.
The Thursday nights have proved to be popular and we were full to capacity on 20th September.
Monday nights have been added to the programme and the aim is to offer a different type of event. This will be a project night where Arts, Crafts, Drama, Discussions, Games and Quizzes will be on offer. They will be quieter nights, giving the young people the opportunity to chat with the workers. A variety of events will be offered and the young people given the opportunity to include events that they may be interested in.
We are always on the lookout for volunteers, and they will always be made welcome. The current volunteers testify that there is nothing to be afraid of, and they have all enjoyed the experience - so why not give it a try?
